This is a really nice vintage children's book published by Puffin Books. Carlotta Budd, a 12 year old Gypsy, with a squint and a terrible temper, was undoubtedly the worst child ever being cared for in Springfield home, and poor Frankie Prust, with his stutter and his big ears, was the shyest and most unattractive. Indeed, as Carlotta went from one extreme of naughtiness to another, and as Frankie became more and more silent and uncommunicative, it seemed as if life would never have anything good to offer them. This moving and often funny book gives a vivid picture of the problems and pleasures of life in a children's home.
